Sarnia mayor shocked by province's latest COVID modelling

Sarnia's mayor says the latest COVID-19 modelling from the province is "absolutely stunning" and clearly indicates Ontario and the country is moving in the wrong direction.

Mike Bradley told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) Friday morning it's very concerning that we could see as many as 6,500 cases a day by mid-December.

"It's been 240 days since we first, in Sarnia-Lambton, entered into this emergency, and no one could've ever envisioned that we would be where we are today, which disappointingly, appears, as I talk about the whole province and the country, to be moving in the total wrong direction."

Bradley said the province's new COVID framework announced last week is extremely confusing.

"And you can see that Windsor's looking to go back to the bars being open until 2 in the morning, other places like London are saying that they're going to have to shut down more, the GTA just seems to be an area that is just uncontrollable at this point," said Bradley. "So it's quite concerning, and the fact that we have people out there that won't wear a mask and are defiant about it is even more concerning when you look at the number of people who might be infected with COVID-19 in December."

Sarnia-Lambton's numbers are relatively stable but cases are trending higher in neighbouring counties.

Lambton Public Health reported Friday morning the caseload is now at 382 with 349 recoveries and 25 deaths, leaving the number of active cases at eight.

Bluewater Health is reporting one positive patient in hospital.

The Lambton Kent District School Board says there's still one case linked to Riverview Central School in Port Lambton.

Sarnia-Lambton remains in the "green" or prevent category under the province's new framework.
