Man arrested in attempted kidnapping

A man was able to break free from an attempted kidnapping and robbery Wednesday morning in Sarnia.

City police were called to an address on Confederation Street near Indian Road just before 8:40 a.m. on July 16.

It's alleged a man was sitting outside the main entrance of a facility in the area, when a man driving a silver pickup truck pulled up and approached him.

Police said the man then grabbed the victim by the handle of his backpack he was wearing, and tried to force him into a nearby vehicle.

During a struggle, the victim was able to break free, however his cell phone was taken from his hand.

Police were unable to locate the suspect during a search of the area, but said the man turned himself in at around 11:30 a.m.

The 24-year-old Sarnia man is charged with robbery with violence and kidnapping.

He was held for a bail hearing and released with conditions.

His next court date is August 18.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Sarnia Police Service Criminal Investigations Division at 519-344-8861 extension 0, or Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
