Hot and humid conditions prompt heat warning from Environment Canada

Another stretch of hot and humid weather is expected to blanket much of southwestern Ontario.

Sarnia-Lambton, Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex are included in a heat warning issued late Friday morning by Environment Canada.

The national weather agency said the temperatures and humidex will meet or be extremely close to heat warning criteria, with the hottest day being Saturday.

Daytime highs of 29 to 32 degrees Celsius are likely with humidex values hovering around 40 degrees Celsius. With overnight lows around 20 to 23 degrees Celsius, we'll see little relief from the heat.

Environment Canada said a shift in the weather pattern on Thursday will likely end this multi-day period of heat and humidity.

Residents are reminded to take precautions from the heat and humidity and drink plenty of water, seek cool places such as tree-shaded areas, swimming pools, or air-conditioned buildings.

Outdoor workers should take regularly scheduled breaks in a cool place, and people or pets should never be left inside a parked vehicle.

We're also being reminded to watch for the early signs of heat exhaustion including rapid breathing, dizziness or fainting, vomiting and decreased urination that is unusually dark yellow in colour.

If you or someone around you is experience heat stroke, call 911.
