Two Awards Part Of Ontario Pork Congress Annual

Two awards, a cheque and a new executive.

All that was part of the recent Ontario Pork Congress annual general meeting.

The 2014 Pork Industry Leadership Award went to OMAFRA Swine Specialist Douglas Richards.

It's awarded annually to an individual who has given freely of his or her time and provided distinguished service to the Ontario Pork Industry and community.

The Lyle Heldmann Award recognizes grace under pressure as a participant in the OPC Bacon Maker Classic.

This year's winner is Grace Robinson, daughter of Jeff and Erin Robinson of Walton.

The OPIC Hog Jog Committee presented a 42 thousand dollar cheque from this year's event to Wellspring Stratford.

The new Ontario Pork Congress Executive includes President Christine Schoonderwoerd and Past President Frank Hogervorst.

Vice-Presidents are Blair Cressman and Joe Dwyer.

Chris Crump is treasurer, Kirk McLean's the Secretary.

The two Ontario Pork Congress Directors-at-Large for 2014 are Jim Donaldson and Meghan Kirkpatrick.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
