Ontario Hog Sales Running Above Last Year

Last week's Ontario Base Market Hog Price fell along with the CME Constructed Price weekly average.

The Ontario price went down just over 8 dollars per hundred kilograms - the CME price dropped by more than 5 dollars per hundredweight.

OMAFRA's John Bancroft reports the Ontario price got some support from a drop in the value of the Canadian dollar.

Bancroft says Ontario market hog sales year to date are up 2 and a half per cent over last year.

U-S hog slaughter over the past three weeks is running over 3 and a half per cent below last year for the same weeks.

Bancroft says dressed weights continue to run higher than last year on both sides of the border.
