CCA Likes Quick Canada-Korea Free Trade Deal Ratification

The Canadian Cattlemen's Association is welcoming quick ratification of the Canada-Korea Free Trade Agreement.

Both governments have set January 1st, 2015 as the date for it to come into force.

CCA President Dave Solverson says that will avoid the U-S getting another year's tariff reduction ahead of Canada.

Solverson says U-S beef has enjoyed an increasing tariff advantage over Canadian product since the Americans implemented their own free trade deal in 2012.

Australia also has a free trade deal set to come into force January 1st.

The CCA says the impact of the U-S free trade deal is clear.

In 2002, Korea was a 40 million dollar market for Canadian beef.

In 2013, Canada's beef exports were cut by about 80 per cent to 7 point 8 million dollars.
