Ontario, U-S Producers Marketing Heavier Hogs

A lower Canadian dollar helped push up the Ontario Base Market Hog Price for last week.

OMAFRA's John Bancroft says that price was up 59 cents to 182.37 per hundred kilograms.

He says the lower dollar offset the 27 cent drop in the CME Constructed Price.

Bancroft expects any movement in the Ontario Base Market Hog Price this week to be sideways.

The OMAFRA weekly market trend report has sales running 2 point 6 per cent higher than last year in Ontario with the average dress weight 2 kilograms heavier.

U-S hog slaughter over the past couple of weeks was down over 3 per cent from a year ago and U-S average dressed weights are now running 2 pounds heavier than last year.
