Ontario's Hog Price Increase Lowest In Canada

OMAFRA is reporting last week's Ontario Base Market Hog Price was up a dollar 24 a hundred kilograms from the previous week.

The Ministry's John Bancroft says both the Canadian dollar and the CME Constructed Price weekly average were down last week.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada says that weekly price was up 12 point 2 per cent over a year ago.

That's the lowest increase in all the provinces.

PEI had the biggest year-over-year price increase last week at 16 point 9 per cent.

Ontario market hog sales year to date are up 2 point 65 per cent from last year.

Total Canadian hog slaughter last week was down almost 2 per cent.

American slaughter was 4 point 2 per cent below last year over the past couple of weeks.

Ontario average dressed weight is running 2 kilograms heavier than last year while the U-S dressed weight is 2 pounds heavier.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
