CME Drop Pushes Down Ontario Hog Price

Last week's Ontario Base Market Hog Price was down over 4 dollars per hundred kilogram from the previous week.

OMAFRA's John Bancroft blames the change on an almost 3 dollars per hundredweight drop in the CME Constructed Price weekly average.

The Ministry says Ontario market hog sales this year continue to run 2 point 65 per cent higher than a year ago with the average dressed weight 2 kilograms heavier than in 2013.

U-S slaughter over the past three weeks is running 3 per cent below last year with the dressed weight 2 pounds heavier than it was in 2013.

Based on a number of factors, Bancroft suggests this week's Ontario hog prices will go down.
