Georgia Grower Sets Corn Yield Record

It may not be a realistic one - but here's a target for Ontario corn growers to consider.

The National Corn Growers Association in the U-S recently wrapped up it's National Corn Yield Contest.

The all-time high yield record was set by a Georgia farmer.

His final yield - 503 bushels an acre.

NCGA officials say a record six national entries surpassed the 400 plus bushel per acre mark in this year's contest.

Association spokesman Don Glenn says the techniques and practices contest winners develop provide the basis for widely used advances that help farmers across the country excel in a variety of situations.

For comparison - the projected national average for corn yield in the U-S this year is 173 point 4 bushels an acre.

For further comparison - Agricorp says the average corn yield reported to the agency here in Ontario this year is 168 bushels an acre.
