The advantages of holistic grazing are enormous according to a Lucknow area farmer.
Tony McQuail has 100 acres and raises grass fed beef and pastured pork and poultry.
He defines holistic grazing as keeping track of where animals are in order to put them at the right place at the right time for the right reasons.
"You increase the productivity of the plants and your animals and you're building soil organic matter with this system and sequestering carbon as a result. In our experience we've got healthy plants, healthy animals, it makes life a lot easier when we manage this way," said McQuail.
He adds holistic grazing reduces stress on the farmer because they can alter plans more easily to cope with drought or flooding or any other problems they face.
McQuail was a guest speaker at Ecological Day at Grey Bruce Farmers Week in Elmwood.
