New Chair For Provincial Fruit And Vegetable Group

Jason Verkaik is the new chair of the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.

He moves up from the Vice-Chair position to replace Ray Duc, who's been the Association's Chair for the past two years.

Verkaik is president of Carron Farms Limited, near Bradford in the Holland Marsh.

The Association's board has three new members this year.

Kenny Forth represents the fresh vegetable sector, Bill George grapes and Neil Reimer asparagus.

The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association represents the province's fruit, vegetable and vegetable greenhouse farmers on issues affecting the edible horticulture sector.

New military crosswalk in Sarnia to be unveiled

As part of a partnership between the Sarnia Legion Branch 62 and City of Sarnia, an unveiling ceremony will be held at the corner of Christina Street and Wellington Street on Sunday, June 7, at 2 p.m.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
