Expanding Global Market For Canadian Pulse Crops

The federal government is investing money in research designed to increase the global market share for Canadian pulse crops.

The Canadian International Grains Institute is going to use the 950 thousand dollars to identify new food products from roller-milled pulse flour.

The idea behind that research is to boost the pulse sector's flour processing and milling capacity.

The Canadian pulse sector generated 1 point 7 billion dollars in farm sales in 2013.

Pulses represent Canada's third largest export crop - after wheat and canola - with close to 2 billion dollars in global sales.
