Water Adaptation Project Provides $1.26 M

Over the last year, the Water Adaptation Management and Quality Initiative (WAMQI) project has provided $1.26 million in funding for 28 water and nutrient use efficiency projects carried out by academic institutions, conservation authorities, universities, and commodity organizations.

WAMQI was designed to help Ontario farmers: · Prepare for, and better manage, the impacts of climate change through the development of resilient farm practices; · Address issues of water supply by adopting water conservation and water use practices; · Improve water quality through better nutrient management practices.

The initiative has been funded by Growing Forward 2 and is administered by Farm & Food Care Ontario.

The program will conclude next month with a symposium on March 3 designed to showcase project results related to innovative waste water, new mobile software applications to monitor weather and soil information, agronomy projects to reduce fertilizer rates and improve cover crop recommendations and more.

To date, more than 70 water and nutrient use efficiency leaders from government, academia, industry and commodity boards have registered to attend.

Bruce Taylor, Founder and President of Enviro-Stewards will provide a keynote presentation with the title Nutrition and Water Efficiency in Food and Beverage Processing Operations.

The symposium is March 3 from 9:00am to 3:30pm at the Hanlon Convention Centre in Guelph.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
