Ontario Confirmed PED Diagnosis Count Updated - Now At 77

Two new hog farms have been confirmed with PED in Ontario in the past three weeks.

Both are farrow-to-finish operations.

An Oxford County location was confirmed on February 20th.

A Waterloo county diagnosis was confirmed March 5th.

That brings the provincial total to 77 since January of last year.

Ontario Pork says the mortality rate in nursing piglets can be up to 100 per cent.

In growing pigs, PED causes widespread diarrhea but low mortality.

The disease is not considered a food safety risk or a risk to human health.
