Avian Flu Outbreak Prompts Import Restrictions On U-S Products

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has slapped some restrictions on poultry products from parts of the U-S.

The CFIA says highly pathogenic avian influenza has been reported in poultry in Minnesota, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington State.

Commercial imports of live poultry, birds and raw or untreated avian products are restricted from the specific quarantine zones within those states.

The CFIA is also warning travellers they can't bring raw poultry or poultry products and byproducts not fully cooked that have been sourced, processed or packaged from any of those states into Canada.

There's no food safety risk associated with these products.

The CFIA says it's just trying to prevent the introduction of avian influenza into other parts of Canada.
