FCC Economist Finds Some USDA Forecasts 'Intriguing'

Farm Credit Canada Economist J. P. Gervais says USDA projections can help Canadian producers.

He points out producers in this country operate in a global market that's strongly influenced by production and consumption decisions in the U-S.

The USDA's recent 10 year productions forecast a decline in American seeded acres for 2015 to 2021.

Gervais calls that intriguing.

He points out the markets right now are expecting the opposite, at least in the short term.

The USDA forecast expects American cattle inventories to increase slightly this year and continue building through the forecast period.

U-S hog inventories are also expected to increase, but the USDA says the PED impact will keep those numbers from reaching 2013 levels.
