Revised Veal Code Of Practice In The Works

Canada's Code of Practice for Veal Calves is being reviewed and updated.

The National Farm Animal Care Council is handling the review and update at the request of the Canadian Veal Association.

The code is considered the national understanding of animal care requirements and recommended practices.

Canadian Veal Association President Andre Roy says the review will focus on ensuring up-to-date and practical approaches to the care and welfare of calves raised for the veal market.

Stakeholders involved include farmers, veterinarians and researchers.

Representatives from animal welfare and enforcement agencies will also be part of the process.

The revised Canadian Code of Practice for Veal Calves is expected to be completed in 2017.
