PC Ag Critic: Pollinator Proposals 'Irresponsible, Intimidating'

Ontario Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal took some heat at Queen's Park over the government's pollinator health proposal.

Conservative Agriculture Critic Toby Barrett criticized the proposals in Question Period last week.

He argued the evidence for the move to restrict the use of neonics was, at best, circumstantial.

He also called it irresponsible and intimidating, asking the minister why he had allowed emotion to trump science.

Agriculture Minister Leal responded to Barrett's question by mentioning some of the other factors impacting pollinator health.

He also told the legislature feedback gained during public consultations and through the Environmental Registry were all taken into consideration in coming up with the latest version of the pollinator health regulations.
