U-S Hog Carcass, Cut-Out Values Continue To Slide

Average retail pork prices and live hog prices were both down in February in the U-S.

The University of Missouri's weekly hog outlook says February retail prices were down almost 5 cents from January and over 21 cents per pound from a year ago.

The live price for lean hogs in February was down over 8 dollars form January and down over 18 dollars from 2014.

The University's Ron Plain says last week's pork cutout value and negotiated carcass prices were also both down.

The cutout value - at $66.08 - was down a dollar 44 on the week, almost 65 dollars below a year ago.

It's the tenth straight week the U-S pork cutout value has dropped.

The 55.96 per hundredweight negotiated carcass price was almost 2 dollars lower on the week, over 69 dollars lower than last year.

U-S hog slaughter last week totalled 2 point 27 million head.

That's up 1 and a half per cent from the week before and up almost 12 per cent from last year.

That's the tenth straight week U-S hog slaughter has been higher than the same week last year.
