Costs To Farm Continue To Climb

The cost of farm inputs in Canada went up a tenth of a percent from the third to the fourth quarter of 2014.

Statistics Canada says animal production costs were up 1 point 7 per cent from quarter to quarter, while machinery and motor vehicle costs were down by 3 per cent.

The agency reports farm input costs went up almost 7 per cent from the fourth quarter of 2013.

Again, animal production costs had the biggest impact with a 19 point 2 per cent increase, year-over-year.

The biggest year-over-year farm input cost increases were reported in B-C, at 2 point 4 per cent, and Alberta with a 2 per cent increase.

Here in Ontario, farm input costs were down 2 tenths of a per cent from the third to fourth quarter, and up 6 point 7 per cent year over year.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
