Ontario Goat Awards Dedicated Producers

Ontario Goat's first-ever Goat Advocate Award winners have been announced.

There are two awards - one for the dairy goat sector, one for the meat sector.

Executive Director Jennifer Haley says they are a way Ontario Goat can recognize producers who have dedicated a lot of time and worked tirelessly for the betterment of the provincial goat industry.

The winner of the Ontario Goat Advocate Award for the dairy sector is Peter Kerkvliet from St. Thomas.

He and his family milk around 500 goats.

Kerkvliet has served as a director with the Ontario Dairy Goat Cooperative and is currently on the board of the Centre of Excellence for Goat Research and innovation.

The winners of the Ontario Goat Advocate Award for the meat sector are Ryan and Christie Prins of Wooler in Eastern Ontario.

The Prins are established goat breeders and strong advocates for performance testing.

They have both served on boards for Ontario Goat and the Canadian Meat Goat Association.
