Feds Fund Push For Soymilk Market Expansion

The federal government has announced an investment it says will help boost the global competitiveness of food-grade soybeans.

The 225 thousand dollars is going to Agriculture and AgriFood Canada scientists to work with the Canadian Soybean Exporters' Association .

The primary objective of the project is to evaluate Canadian soybean suitability for soymilk production.

It's targeted mainly at the Asian soy food market, estimated to be worth 880 million dollars last year.

Soy Canada says soybeans are the fourth-largest crop in the country, by seeded acreage, returning 2 point 4 billion dollars to Canadian farmers.
