'Snapshot' Shows Value Of Canada's Agriculture & Agri-Food Sector

The Canadian agriculture and agri-food sector provided one in eight jobs in Canada in 2013.

That's a total over over 2 point 2 million jobs.

That is one of the highlites of the annual Overview of the Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food System.

It's published by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada and is described by the government as a snapshot of the composition and performance of the country's agriculture and agri-food system.

The overview says the sector generated 106 point 9 billion dollars in 2013 - 6 point 7 per cent of the total Canadian Gross Domestic Product or GDP.

It also calls the food and beverage processing industry the largest of all Canadian manufacturing industries.

It accounts for the largest share of the total manufacturing sector's 2013 GDP at 16 per cent.

And it accounted for the largest share of jobs in the manufacturing sector, at 16 point 7 per cent.

The 2015 Overview of the Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food system is based on historical data up to 2013.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
