Dairy Service Award For Ottawa-Area Woman

An Ottawa-area woman is the winner of the 2015 Outstanding Dairy Women Service Award.

Karen Velthuis and her family operate Riverdown Holsteins near Metcalfe.

The award recognizes the efforts and accomplishments of Ontario women who have devoted their lives to serving, promoting and enhancing the dairy industry.

For Velthuis, that includes 25 years with 4-H, as a member and leader.

She was also the first woman to serve as a director for the Holstein Ontario Branch, won the Women's Institute National Woman of Excellence Award and her family has earned their Master Breeder Award.

Karen Velthuis was presented with the Outstanding Dairy Women Service Award at the Ontario Holstein Branch's Annual General Meeting earlier this year in Orillia.
