Thompsons Limited Co-Owner Reports 'Soft' First Quarter

One of the co-owners of a major Southwestern Ontario grain handler is reporting a soft financial start for 2015.

U-S based The Andersons is a co-owner of Thompsons Limited.

It's reporting net income for the quarter of 4 point 1 million dollars - compared with 22 point 7 million for the same quarter last year.

CEO Mike Anderson says the company feels conditions in the markets it serves gives them optimism for the full year.

Included in the company's first quarter report is the prediction that U-S corn acres are estimated to be about 89 million acres while bean acres are estimated to be roughly 85 million.

Andersons officials expect the corn acre numbers create a good environment for all three of the company's agricultural businesses.
