Wet Weekend Welcome By Many Ontario Farmers

The Central Ontario OMAFRA Field Crop Team says it has been the driest spring in recent memory.

Their recent meeting in Exeter talks about fields with a pre-emergent weed control program needing to be monitored closely because of that.

They also talked about frost damage.

The vast majority of corn is expected to recover since the growing point is below ground.

They estimate the impacted soybean acreage will be less than 5 per cent of the total.

However, individual growers affected may end up having to reseed their whole soybean crop.

They say the region's hay crops have also been impacted by the frost - but they are expected to recover.
