Many Crops Entering Critical Weed Control Period

Weed control in corn, soybeans, canola and other crops is a priority this week.

OMAFRA's Brian Hall says many of those crops are entering critical weed-free period.

For soybean growers - a reminder to make spraying decisions based on the stage of the weed, not the growth stage of the soybeans.

Hall says this past weekend's rain will be of immense benefit in activating of pre-emerge herbicides.

He says it will also benefit soybeans planted in dry conditions and help dissolve the fertilizer that's been applied.

Hall figures this to be a big week for forage harvest for dairy producers, although the alfalfa crop is shorter than normal.
