Securing Your Farm Before It Becomes A Target

Many farmers access security services after they've had an incident on their farms.

Crystal Mackay with Farm & Food Care Ontario says a new resource is designed to help farmers avoid becoming a target in the first place.

It's called A Practical Guide To On-Farm Security.

It's available on-line through the Ontario Federation of Agriculture website.

The resource has three main sections - Securing Your Assets, Visitors On The Farm and When To Call Police.

An OFA spokesman says while property crime rates for rural areas are low compared to urban areas, when farm assets are under threat the implications can be severe.

A Practical Guide To On-Farm Security is a joint project of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture and Farm & Food Care Ontario and was funded, in part, through Growing Forward 2.
