Second Ontario PED Diagnosis Confirmed For July

Ontario has it's second confirmed PED diagnosis for July.

The first was a farrow-to-finish operation in Lambton on July 2nd.

The latest is a farrow-to-finish operation in Oxford County - confirmed July 8th.

Having two in the same month is a bit of a spike.

Ontario had averaged one new confirmed PED operation a month since the first of April.

The virus normally eases up on the warmer weather.

The mortality rate in nursing piglets is as high as 100 per cent.

In growing pigs there's a much lower mortality rate.

PED is not considered to be a threat to human health or to food safety.
