Atwood High School Student Winds 4-H Essay Contest

This year's winner of the Growmark Essay Contests for Ontario 4-H members is from Perth County.

Emily MacKay of Atwood took top place in the competition.

Charlene Eliot from Wellington and Mikayla Ringelberg of Hamilton-Wentworth took the runner-up spots.

MacKay wins 500 dollars while her 4-H Association in Perth County gets 300 dollars to help support future programs.

The theme of this year's contest was 'Exploring Careers in Agriculture'.

MacKay plans to become a veterinarian.

Her entry was a 500 word essay based on an interview with her grandfather about that profession.

This is the fourth year for the program in Ontario.

It's designed to help young people develop their writing skills, learn about current issues in agriculture and understand the unique role of co-operatives.
