Growing Canadian Beef Access To Ukraine

The federal government has worked out a deal to open the Ukrainian market for some Canadian beef and beef products.

The deal involves beef from cattle under 30 months and ready-to-eat meat from establishments already eligible for export to the European Union.

Federal officials say those establishments will get immediate access.

The government is working with Ukraine to expand the number of eligible establishments.

Canadian Meat Council President Joe Reda says this country's processors have a significant long-term interest in trade with Ukraine.

Last week, Canada and the Ukraine wrapped up negotiation of a free trade deal which - when implemented - will result in the elimination of the vast majority Ukraine's agricultural tariffs.
