Ritz, Fast Reject U-S Senate COOL Proposal

A move by a couple of U-S Senators on COOL is being rejected by federal officials in this country.

Democrat Debbie Stabenow of Michigan and Republican John Hoeven of North Dakota have introduced a bill that would allow voluntary labelling of beef, pork and chicken produced in the U-S.

The Senators argue that should be enough to prevent retaliatory trade sanctions by Canada and Mexico.

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and Trade Minister Ed Fast disagree.

They say it wold continue the segregation and discrimination against Canadian cattle and hogs.

Ritz and Fast say the only acceptable outcome continues to be for the U-S to repeal COOL or face 3 billion dollars in annual trade retaliation.
