Figuring Out What Causes Foaming Manure

Foaming manure can be a lot more dangerous than it sounds.

The foam traps methane gas in the bubbles then, when agitated, releases the gas in pretty high concentrations.

OMAFRA's Jacqui Empson Laporte says there's a lot of research going on in the U-S to try to figure out what's causing it.

She says the ministry's Swine Team is also looking into it here in Ontario.

The Swine Team is interested in talking to any farmers who have foaming manure as part of their efforts to figure out what's causing it.
