Bee Pest Small Hive Beetle Discoveries Spike In Niagara Region

There are six new small hive beetle finds in the Niagara Region.

That is a considerable jump from the three discovered over three years.

Five of the new finds are in commerical yards and the sixth is in a small non-commercial yard.

Healthy honey bee colonies appear able to contend with fairly large populations of adult beetles with little effects.

But, beetles can cause excessive damage if colonies have already been stressed or weakened by other factors.

The OBA has set up a special section on it's website for updates and resources related to the Small Hive Beetle.
