Beekeepers Group Developing Small Hive Beetle Strategy

The Ontario Beekeepers Association continues to downplay the threat from Small Hive Beetles.

Six new SHB finds have been reported in the Niagara Region recently.

OMAFRA has placed those yards under restricted movement.

The OBA says much has been learned about control and mitigation over the past few years.

The Association is working with OMAFRA to develop strategies it says will balance the interests of beekeepers across the province and the beekeeping industry.

The OBA's latest newsletter says it expects it will take a month or so for them to consider the options and implications.

The Association and OMAFRA will be meeting next week on the SHB situation and are hoping to teleconference with local association presidents early next month for an update and input.
