Canadian, Ontario Hog Slaughter Numbers Ahead Of 2014

Canadian hog slaughter numbers are running higher than last year.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports there were just over 13 point 5 million hogs slaughtered in federal and provincial plants to August 22nd.

That's 3 per cent more than for the same period in 2014.

Ontario's hog slaughter numbers so far this year are running 1 point 9 per cent ahead of last year.

The federal government's latest figures have live hog exports to the U-S at 3.3 million - up 12 and a half per cent from last year.

Pork imports to the end of June are 4 point 4 per cent higher than they were a year ago.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
