Plant Breeders Rights Lawsuit Settled

A Plant Breeders Rights lawsuit involving a Huron County agribusiness has been resolved.

DuPont Pioneer and Hill & Hill Farms Limited of Varna have reached a confidential settlement of the suit.

Hill & Hill's lawyer - Kurtis Andrews - says any seed variety registered under that act can't be sold or planted by anyone else other than the original purchaser.

Andrews refers to that practice as 'brown bagging'.

According to the settlement, the Varna seed retailer was falsely identifying a wheat seed for sale as its own.
