Corn Harvest Begins In U.S.

The corn harvest has started in the United States.

The USDA says American farmers have 5 per cent of the crop off so far, compared to 9 per cent for the five year average. The department's latest Crop Progress report has the corn condition at 68 per cent and is unchanged from last week, 6 points below a year ago. The condition of the American soybean crop slipped two points to 61 per cent good to excellent, 11 points behind last year.

The spring wheat harvest is ahead of the average pace while the winter wheat harvest is right on pace.

U-S spring wheat is 97 per cent harvested against an 86 per cent five year average.

9 per cent of the winter wheat is planted and is the same as the five year average.
