Ontario Hog Price Down Over 6% From 2014

Canadian hog slaughter numbers are running 2 and a half per cent ahead of last year.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports there have been 14 point 1 million head slaughtered in federal plants to the week ending September 12th.

Ontario's average price of 205.07 per hundred kilograms, dressed weight, was 6 point 1 per cent lower than the same week last year.

In the U-S, the University of Missouri's Ron Plain says total hog slaughter last week was 1 point 278 million head - up 11 point 7 per cent from the previous week and up 11 point 7 per cent from the same week last year.

Plain also reports August retail pork prices in the U-S were up 6 point 5 per cent from July, but down 36 point 6 per cent from August of 2014.

Iowa State University calculations have the average profit for market hogs sold by Iowa farrow-to-finish operations in August at just over 20 dollars per head.

That was the fifth consecutive profitable month for Iowa producers.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
