Fertilizer Stewardship Program Gets Provincial Government Funding

An effort to develop educational programs for farmers about nutrient management is getting provincial government support.

Fertilizer Canada and the Ontario Agri Business Association are developing the programs based on the 4R Nutrient Stewardship system.

That system promotes the efficient application of fertilizer to improve profitability and reduce nutrient losses.

OMAFRA is investing 50 thousand dollars in the program.

Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal says it's another step on the path to more sustainable use of our agricultural lands and the improvement and preservation of the Great Lakes.

Ontario Agri Business Association CEO Dave Buttenham calls the funding a recognition by the government that 4R can play a key role in achieving both environmental and farm sustainability.
