Global Food Prices Edge Up In September

The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation says it's September Food Price Index was up 1 point from August.

However, the FAO says it's still almost 19 per cent below where it was in September of 2014.

The organisation's Cereal, Vegetable Oil and Meat price indexes were all virtually unchanged.

The FAO says the Cereal Price Index has been under pressure since early this year.

The Vegetable Oil Price Index is at it's lowest level since March of 2009.

And the Meat Price Index has moved within a narrow range since March of this year.

The World Dairy and Sugar Price Indexes were both up.

Dairy was up 5 per cent - Sugar was up 3 point 2 per cent.
