U-S September Cattle Placements Higher Than Marketings

U-S cattlemen had 2 per cent more cattle and calves on feed for slaughter on October 1st than they did a year ago.

68 per cent of those were steers and steer calves - the remaining 32 per cent were heifers and heifer calves.

According to the USDA, that's the lowest percentage of heifers and heifer calves for October since the series began in 1996.

Placements in U-S feedlots in September totalled 1 point 93 million head - 4 per cent lower than in September of 2014.

Marketings were 1 point 64 million head - 2 per cent lower than a year ago.
