Canadian Live Hog Exports To U-S Up Almost 13 Per Cent

Canadian hog slaughter in federally-inspected plants is up 2 point 3 per cent so far this year from a year ago.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada reports live hog exports to the U-S so far this year are up 12 point 8 per cent, while imports of fresh, frozen and processed pork are up 2 point 5 per cent.

U-S hog slaughter last week was up 8 point 4 per cent from the same week last year.

The University of Missouri's Ron Plain reports last week's 2 point 424 million head slaughter volume was the largest in over 3 years.

The U-S national negotiated barrow and gilt carcass price Friday was $51.56 per hundredweight - up a dollar 39 from the week before.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
