Canadian Honey Production, Bee Colony Numbers Up

Canadian honey production was up over 11 per cent this year from 2014.

Statistics Canada says while there were 365 fewer beekeepers in the country this year there were 3 point 6 per cent more colonies.

The numbers agency reports the average production of each colony in 2015 was 132 pounds of honey - up 9 pounds from 2014.

The key Ontario numbers were all down from a year ago.

Statscan says provincial honey production was down over 11 per cent.

The agency reports that's based on 21 per cent fewer beekeepers and a more than 10 per cent drop in the number of colonies in Ontario from 2014.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
