Ontario Hog Slaughter Up Slightly From 2014

Canadian hog slaughter so far this year is up 2 point 6 per cent from a year ago.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada reports Ontario slaughter is up 2 tenths of a percent over 2014 - the second smallest change of any of the provinces.

Ontario's hog price for the week ending December 5th was down over 21 per cent from the same week a year ago.

Live hog exports to the U-S are running almost 13 per cent above 2014 numbers.

University of Missouri economist Ron Plain reports last week's U-S hog slaughter was 2 point 242 million head.

That's up a tenth of a per cent from the week before and up 7 point 3 per cent from the same week last year.

The U-S national negotiated barrow and gilt price Friday was $49.93 per hundredweight, down a dollar 63 on the week.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
