Canadian Dairy Giant Gets Financial Boost

The Canadian dairy cooperative Agropur is getting a new, 300 million dollar investment.

The money is coming from a group of Quebec institutional investors and bankers.

That's on top of the 470 million those same financial backers put into the co-operative last year.

National Bank is one of the banks involved.

Spokesman Yanick Blanchard calls Agropur a key player in the agri-food industry.

He points out the co-operative has generated considerable positive spinoffs for the economic and social well-being of its communities.

A spokesman for one of the other financial partners says while most of Agropur's recent growth was based outside the province, it contributed to the consolidation of Quebec jobs.
