Record Week For U-S Hog Slaughter

American processors set a record for hog slaughter last week.

The University of Missouri's Ron Plain says the 2 point 493 million head slaughtered on the week broke the old record by about 23 thousand head.

That record was set in December of 2007.

The national negotiated barrow and gilt price in the U-S Friday was $47.81 per hundredweight, down over 2 dollars from the previous Friday.

Here in Canada, total pork slaughter was up 2 point for per cent on the year to December 12th from a year ago.

Agriculture and AgriFood Canada also reports the average Ontario hog price for the week ending December 12th was down almost 20 per cent from the same week a year ago.
