TSSA Postponing Enforcement Of New Barn Heater Reg

Farmers with unvented gas heaters installed before October 1st of last year are getting a little more time to meet a new code requirement.

A change to the Gaseous Fuels Code Adoption Document scheduled to go into effect January 1st has been suspended.

The change would have required livestock and poultry farmers to hire a professional engineer to verify a couple of calculations and prominently display that information in the entrance area of each barn.

However, the Technical Safety and Standards Association says it's going to temporarily suspend enforcement of the January 1st deadline.

The TSSA says a shortage of licence holders who can design barn ventilation systems has made it difficult for owners of existing unvented heaters in livestock and poultry facilities to meet that deadline.

The Association says fuel distributors and suppliers may continue to deliver fuel to those appliances.
