New Soybean Oil Available For Product Development

Soy 20/20 is helping distribute limited quantities of anew soybean oil for industrial product trials.

The oil oil comes from a new soybean variety, OAC 13-55C-HL.

It's a high linoleic soybean oil believed to have potential in applications like paints, coatings and epoxies.

According to Soy 20/20's Rob Roe, soybean usage in paints and coatings is on the rise.

He believes this new oil has the potential to be a better feedstock for those uses as well as in the development of new materials.

Soy 20/20 CEO Jeff Schmalz suggests the industrial bioproducts market represents significant opportunities for Canada's soybean industry.

Soybean oils have the potential to provide a more sustainable feedstock for a number of products derived from petroleum.

Soy 20/20 believes the oils will also add diversity to the agricultural sector.

The University of Guelph owns the oil and the soybean variety - Soy 20/20 is helping distribute small samples of it to companies interested in possible product development applications.
